Class#8 Wedding

1.Since Japanese weddings are expensive, do you think having a massive wedding like Korea or USA is a good idea? Why?
I think massive wedding is a good idea, but it cost a lot of money. There are wedding form is various style, so I should select wedding of one's choice.

2. What do you think about eloping? Is it a good idea or romantic? Why?
I think it is romantic but it is dangerous. The eloping cause each family great trouble. I don't want to do. If my sister or brother eloping, I worry a great deal.

3. Have you ever thought about having a wedding in a foreign location like Hawaii?
Would you do it? Why?Or Why not?
Yes!! If I can wedding in a foreign location, I want to do in Hawaii or Europe. Hawaii has beautiful nature and sea. Europe has many historical building and church, especially England is nice place. I hanker for hold wedding foreign church.

4.What is your ideal wedding?
I want to wedding twice. First time, I hold in Tahiti only my husband and me. Second time, I hold church in Japan, and I want to wear wedding dress at twice. I invite each family and each friends.

5.What would you definitely do, wear or go to on that big day? Why is that important?
I want to wear white wedding dress and blue one. I would like to try Japanese traditional Kimono. Wedding once in a lifetime experience for girls. I think wedding is girls dream!

6. Have you ever been to a foreigner's wedding? What was your impression?
I have never been to foreigner's wedding, but I look someones wedding. When I went to York in England, man and woman held wedding in church. They are very beautiful and had a happy look. Many people said congratulation. They wedding makes me happy.

Class#7 Superstition

Which part surprised you the most?
I surprised about "apple soup". I think it is dessert, but it is not dessert. I was interested by it taste.

What kind of Danish food do you want to try?
I want to try to eat apple soup and Danish pastry. Japanese pastry is very delicious, so I would like to eat pastry made in Danish.



1.Do you think it is important to talk about superstitions in cross culture communication class? Why?
Yes, I do. Superstitions is the wisdom of the ancients. I am able to understand think of the ancients. I would like to know superstition various country. I think superstitions is good culture.


2.Is communication affected by superstitions?
No. Superstitions is idea of old religion, so communication don't affected by superstitions.

3.Do you believe in superstitions? If yes, what superstitions do you believe?Why do you do, use, or believe in them?
I don't believe in superstitions, but I care about food and food. For example, I eat eel and umeboshi, have a stomachache. Young people associate blood type with character. For instance, group B blood is goes own way. They judgement character with blood type.

Time

1. Please explain a time proverb in your culture.
「時を失う」It is lose the time. It mean that lose the great opportunity.
「時と場合」It is time and circumstance. It mean that the time depend on various situation.

2. What do the following proverbs mean:
a. Time is money.
Time is very important and effective for people also money, so we should not waste time.

b. A stitch in time saves nine.
I do not to fail, I prepare something in advance.

c. There's no time like the present.
Now is the good chance!

d.Let's meet at 4. If I'm not there by 5, leave without me at 6, and I'll be there at 7.

Class#4 Friends

1. What are some subjects that you will never discuss with a friend?
I never discuss family problem. This subject is complex to me.

2. Do you have different friends for different parts of your life? If so, how are they different to you? Do you talk about different things? Go to different places? Give me some examples.
Yes. I have different friends. For example, there are school mate, senior, junior and coworker. I talk about various thing with university friends, because I meet everyday. Especially, I talk about TV program and love talk. I talk about job hunting with my senior.
My university friend live in various area but my junior high school friend live in same area with me, so I go to city center with my university friends, and local place with my junior high school friends.

Class#3 The Language of Clothes

1. Do you judge people according to what they wear? Why?
Yes. I understand that don't judge a person by his or her. But I judge people according to what they wear. I think that clothes is one personality.

2. Do you think Japanese society puts an importance on clothing when judging other people from another country?
Yes. I think Japanese people have strong stereotype. Japanese society Judging on clothing.

3. What colors are you wearing now? Do they reflect your mood?
I' m wearing pajama. I wore long T-shirt and pattern of flower skirt.
No. But I change clothes the day plan. For example, When I work part-time job, I wear jean and shirt.

Class #2 Death and Funerals

1.Death and Funerals:a. Do you have any international friends or a host family? If so, how would you express your condolences to them if a family member died? If not, then how would you express condolences to an American host family if their Grandmother died?b. Have you ever been to a foreign funeral?
a Yes. My host family live in England. If my host family died, I will write a letter. I want to go to England, but England is very far from Japan. I write that I'm very sad and I can't believe you died. I never forget you!
b No. I have not been concern. but I want to know foreign funeral.

2. The language of Clothes (preparation for next weeks topic):a.Why are Japanese designer label crazy? Why is what you wear so important?b.What does “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” mean to you?
a I think that Japanese don't care design. It don't have deep meaning. I wear simple clothes. I don't important lanuage of Clothes.
b I think I can't judge the contents from only cover of book. I don't understand....

Class #1 Fall 2009

Where do you go when you die?
I think that I go to heaven or hell.
I often heard if I do good work, I can go to heaven but if I do bad work, I fall into the pits of hell. I believe that I can go to heaven when I die.

Where do you go when you die?b. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?
Because most Japanese believe in Buddhism.
These memorial service was did in memory of deceased.
People smooth soul of deceased ans offer prayer for deceased.
I think that Japanese does memorial services to remind to deceased.
