Class#4 Friends

1. What are some subjects that you will never discuss with a friend?
I never discuss family problem. This subject is complex to me.

2. Do you have different friends for different parts of your life? If so, how are they different to you? Do you talk about different things? Go to different places? Give me some examples.
Yes. I have different friends. For example, there are school mate, senior, junior and coworker. I talk about various thing with university friends, because I meet everyday. Especially, I talk about TV program and love talk. I talk about job hunting with my senior.
My university friend live in various area but my junior high school friend live in same area with me, so I go to city center with my university friends, and local place with my junior high school friends.

Class#3 The Language of Clothes

1. Do you judge people according to what they wear? Why?
Yes. I understand that don't judge a person by his or her. But I judge people according to what they wear. I think that clothes is one personality.

2. Do you think Japanese society puts an importance on clothing when judging other people from another country?
Yes. I think Japanese people have strong stereotype. Japanese society Judging on clothing.

3. What colors are you wearing now? Do they reflect your mood?
I' m wearing pajama. I wore long T-shirt and pattern of flower skirt.
No. But I change clothes the day plan. For example, When I work part-time job, I wear jean and shirt.

Class #2 Death and Funerals

1.Death and Funerals:a. Do you have any international friends or a host family? If so, how would you express your condolences to them if a family member died? If not, then how would you express condolences to an American host family if their Grandmother died?b. Have you ever been to a foreign funeral?
a Yes. My host family live in England. If my host family died, I will write a letter. I want to go to England, but England is very far from Japan. I write that I'm very sad and I can't believe you died. I never forget you!
b No. I have not been concern. but I want to know foreign funeral.

2. The language of Clothes (preparation for next weeks topic):a.Why are Japanese designer label crazy? Why is what you wear so important?b.What does “Don’t judge a book by it’s cover.” mean to you?
a I think that Japanese don't care design. It don't have deep meaning. I wear simple clothes. I don't important lanuage of Clothes.
b I think I can't judge the contents from only cover of book. I don't understand....

Class #1 Fall 2009

Where do you go when you die?
I think that I go to heaven or hell.
I often heard if I do good work, I can go to heaven but if I do bad work, I fall into the pits of hell. I believe that I can go to heaven when I die.

Where do you go when you die?b. Explain why do Japanese have death memorial services 1 month, 1 year, 3 years, 7 years, etc. after a person's death?
Because most Japanese believe in Buddhism.
These memorial service was did in memory of deceased.
People smooth soul of deceased ans offer prayer for deceased.
I think that Japanese does memorial services to remind to deceased.
